Running Accomplishments:

I have run 12 marathons, 5 since major surgery in 2005. My fastest was Leipzig in 1992. 3 hours 11 minutes 48 seconds. The Mesa-Phx Marathon on February 25, 2017 was the fastest since my surgery at 4:26:59.

Short-Term Running Goals:

I want to improve on my last Marathon time. After the Phoenix Marathon that I ran February 25, 2017 I want to focus on shorter races and do a sprint tri. I did improve about 45 minutes faster on the Mesa-Phx Marathon over the last Petrified Forest Marathon and about 27 minutes faster than the last time I ran the Mesa-Phx Marathon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue to run and work on my speed. Do shorter races and a sprint tri in the next year.

Personal:

I have been an educator for 32 years. My wife, Margaret, and I have 6 children and at the present time 6 grandchildren. Running helps to keep me level. I love it and hope to continue to run for many years to come.

Ran with Don in Mesa. 1:11:17 with 10:08 pace. Ran canals. Started run at 5:20 AM and it was 84 degrees for most if not all of the run. The sun only hit me a little bit at the end. 10:02, 9:49, 10:00, 10:07, 9:58, 10:00, and 10:43 with 38 sec for the last.03. The heat got to me at the end. Don pulled away at the end but we ran together for most of the run, I think about 6.25 miles. He took it easy on me. Ave.HR 123, training effect 2.5. Cadence was a little slower than it has been in Eagar. It was almost 30 degrees warmer than my Eagar runs. Ave. elevation about 1255 feet. Normal runs are 7000 and above.

No run. Got back from the valley late last night and then struggled to sleep.

1:01:04 with 9:49 pace. Eagar AM. 9:53, 9:48, 9:50, 9:48, 9:51, and 9:50 with 2:05 for last .22. HR 136. Training Effect 3.2. Ave. cadence faster but Mac lower. Max vo2 went down a point. I felt like I had to work harder even though I avoided a lot of elevation changes to the extent I could. I am wondering if intermittent fasting without getting enough calories could be the reason.

Eagar AM. 1:24:07 with 10:22 pace. 9:57, 10:14, 10:54, 10:26, 9:56, 10:28, 10:32, and 10:33 with 1:07 for .11. Ave. HR 125. Training Effect 2.5. Max vo2 stayed at 49. I still felt a little drained. In addition to the intermittent fasting, I have not been eating baked goods. I am wondering if that is keeping me from getting enough calories. Another week of that. I didn’t run Tuesday or Thursday because of not sleeping the night before. If I run 5 tomorrow I will still get over 26 miles this week.

Woke up really sore today. Had a total of just over 31,000 step day yesterday with the 8 mile run. I am not stretching enough because I don’t get up early enough to stretch more and then get to work on time. Stretching more today. Eagar AM but the sun was out and it was hot at first, then some clouds came. Was 62 degrees when I started and 75 degrees at the end. 51:39 with 10:01 pace. 9:54, 9:42, 9:58, 10:14, and 9:19 with 1:31 for .15. Ave. HR 126 with training effect of 2.3. Max vo2 went back up to 50. I have had 33 days in a row meeting my 10,000 step goal.
