Running Accomplishments:

I have run 12 marathons, 5 since major surgery in 2005. My fastest was Leipzig in 1992. 3 hours 11 minutes 48 seconds. The Mesa-Phx Marathon on February 25, 2017 was the fastest since my surgery at 4:26:59.

Short-Term Running Goals:

I want to improve on my last Marathon time. After the Phoenix Marathon that I ran February 25, 2017 I want to focus on shorter races and do a sprint tri. I did improve about 45 minutes faster on the Mesa-Phx Marathon over the last Petrified Forest Marathon and about 27 minutes faster than the last time I ran the Mesa-Phx Marathon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue to run and work on my speed. Do shorter races and a sprint tri in the next year.

Personal:

I have been an educator for 32 years. My wife, Margaret, and I have 6 children and at the present time 6 grandchildren. Running helps to keep me level. I love it and hope to continue to run for many years to come.

AM mile loops. 61 degrees out. HR 123 with max of 136. 10:02, 10:01, 10:12, and 9:46 with 59 seconds to finish. I was pretty tired so I didn’t push it. Seems like Monday is always hard to run.

AM new run. Stopped to talk with sister whose husband is in the hospital just before 3 miles. Was stopped for 8 min. 44:22 with 10:34 pace. HR 125 with max of 166 at the top of the hill at first mile. First two miles are up. 11:20, 11:20, 10:10, and 9:40 with 1:52 to finish last .2 miles.

AM run. Stopped at 3 miles to thank a volunteer for our school. Stopped at 6 miles to see how a person To whom I minister is doing. Both stops took about 11 min total. 1:34:15 with 10:22 pace. 68 degrees out with slight wind. Combined parts of different runs to get this course. 10:11, 10:24, 10:50, 10:46, 9:57, 10:17, 9:44, 10:35, and 10:30 with 1:01 to finish. HR 118 and max of 154.

AM neighborhood run. 57 degrees out with no wind. 49:16 with 9:40 pace. I did another fahrtlek on the multiples of 5 min for 1 min each. 9:55, 9:27, 9:33, 9:53, and 9:37 with 51 sec to finish. HR 126 with max of 137.

Stretched and walked more before the run. Walked a mile after the run.

AM run 68 degrees no wind. 1:13:50 with 10:15 pace. HR 118 with max of 152. Hills route plus some. 10:18, 10:28, 10:55, 10:52, 9:50, 9:49, and 9:45 with 1:53 to finish. Most of my runs seem a little sluggish lately unless I gave muster. Fahrtlek workout.
